East of South East (ESE): The Zone of Anxiety

Zone of Anxiety
The East of South-East is also called the zone of contemplation, analysis and commitment. The energy of this zone imports depth to your thought and gives you a deeper understanding of the things.
If depressed, this zone results in thought- lessness, hence fruitless action; if overactive, then there is only thought and no action. It is the ideal zone for washing laundry.
Spending long hours in this zone makes one over-anxious and worried over trivial issues. Taking decisions on any issue becomes very difficult as you tend to waste most of the time in exploring all possible aspects and are left with a thoroughly confused mind. You end up being burdened by baseless doubts and fears.
Churning: East-South-East

This single word manthan (churning or analysis) occupies an important place in the Indian shastras. You will be surprised to know that we Indians, lead the world when it comes to cogitation, thinking or analysis. However, it is because of the quality of land in India.
Nowhere in the world people think or analyse (do manthan) as much as we do. On the other, there are many countries where an activity categorized as manthan has not started yet; South Africa is one such country; there are a number of others as well. There is excessive manthan, at every level, in India, and not all of it has any real purpose.
The symbolic story of samudra-manthan (churning of the sea) is so beautiful and enlightening. During the manthan, fourteen important gems were generated. These are important for everyone; ambrosia, goddess Laxmi and venom were also generated. The venom was drunk by lord Shiva.
This story, just like the stories of vastu shastra or vastu purush, is also symbolic of what happens at every moment. Excessive manthan or churning is futile and yields nothing, nothing manifests without it. Just like if you need butter you will have to churn the milk just sufficiently.
People who are familiar with ayurveda, know the harmful effects of excessive manthan; for example, butter churned over 21 times, becomes poison, especially, in the context of administration of medicines. So what should be the ideal limits of manthan?
When controlled, it is like nectar or ambrosia, when uncontrolled, venom. Doing no manthan at all produces nothing. Everyone, every moment, in every domain of life is in a state of manthan (meeting, speaking, saying or touching another’s feet, making eye contact or not, and so on).
A person may spend his entire life analyzing each moment; what is right or wrong. Therefore, learning to be a witness or an observer in meditation, being non-judgemental has been stressed upon. In this case, only apropos thinking (manthan) will be there, automatically.
When we think about the result, are judgemental or biased, there is excessive thinking. If someone experiences a high level of anxiety, that means he is not reaching any conclusion and his manthan process is not working properly.
Now, as said earlier, each activity that is governed by a zone of energy, matches with a large picture of life. The activity involved in churning of butter is the same as that of manthan occurring, subtly, somewhere in the mind; both are governed by this zone.
Wherever a motor named manthan is placed in a person’s life, its current or power is drawn from this zone. Decision and indecisiveness relates to this area. Decision means reaching a conclusion after analysis quickly, but slow, continuous analysis yields ineffective conclusions or decisions.
This place must be all right for effective decision making. So, whichever activity in a house relates to manthan can be placed here.
Since the next is of fire (Aneya koan - the South-East corner is the zone of fire), so the kitchen can be placed here, and the ideal activity for the zone of manthan is to place the mixer here. Skilled housewives know how much to grind and get the desired end product. The rightly placed mixer will facilitate decisions in life, with the right type of output that will produce the right effects.
Manthan has three different connotations at three layers, namely, the body level, the energy and the Manomaya Kosha. Knowing that will make it clear to you how the subtle manthan is to be used correctly: ‘when to let go, when to leave’.
To pursue any relationship, what matters is what to let go of, not what to stick to, and manthan never allows one to let go. Whether you consider husband or wife father-son relationships, true depth comes to those relationships when you learn to leave the painful parts.
The bad places in this zone never lets us do that; painful things keep haunting the mind, affecting relationships negatively. For example, couples with a bedroom in the zone of manthan, can never live happily.
If there is meeting place in the manthan area, then such painful incidents will take place (during a meeting), such unforgettable things will be registered in the inner mind, that those persons will always dislike each other
A bedroom placed here causes feuds and instability in relationships; this confirmed hundred percent. A single person's (above 40 years of age) bedroom, will surely lead to diabetes or anxiety-related problems for home.
For children, however, this does not hold as true, because nature has given them a strong ability to ‘let go’. The bedroom of unmarried children, or those aged between 17-20 years, does not cause any problems; it, rather, enhances their analytical capabilities. So, this is how this zone is to be made use of in life.
